As part of the #CoastNetInfra project, hydrophones were recently installed at three locations in the Tagus Estuary, strengthening the passive acoustic monitoring network of this research infrastructure. This deployment continues the work started under the #MIGRACORV and #FISHNOISE projects, which have been studying underwater sound to better understand marine life in the estuary.

The acoustic recordings collected so far have made it possible to study vocal fish species, specifically to:

✔️ Assess the presence and reproductive behavior of the meagre (Argyrosomus regius)

✔️ Track the invasion of the weakfish (Cynoscion regalis)

In the future, these data may also be used to monitor anthropogenic noise and detect the presence of dolphins in the estuary.

Check out the video for a few moments from the installation and fieldwork carried out by our team!
