The AquaPLAN Project


AquaPLAN is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action funded by the European Union. Running from January 2024 to December 2027, this €2.6 million project unites 15 partners from 10 countries, coordinated by the University of Pisa (Italy).

The project aims to quantify the combined impacts of light and noise pollution (LNP) on aquatic biodiversity in European waters. Despite recent advances, critical knowledge gaps persist. Research often focuses on single pollutants, lacking a comprehensive understanding of combined effects on biodiversity.

By integrating novel interdisciplinary approaches, AquaPLAN want to offer the first large-scale assessment of LNP interactions affecting multiple aquatic ecosystems.

Job Description


The Research Trainee position is a full-time, fixed-term employment contract. As part of the AquaPLAN team from the Falcuty of Science of the University of Lisbon. This is not just a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to impactful research efforts that can alter environmental policies.


Admission Requirements


To qualify for this position, candidates must meet specific criteria:


  • Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Acoustics, or a relevant field is mandatory.


  • Experience: Candidates must show experience in recording and analyzing environmental sound.


  • Driver’s License: A valid driver's license for Portugal is essential. This will allow participation in necessary fieldwork and data collection.


Additionally, degrees from foreign institutions must have recognition from a recognized Portuguese higher education institution.
